Adelaide is renowned for it’s exceptional food, world-class events and of course for it’s wine. Surrounding Adelaide is some of Australia’s best wine country and with more than 200 cellar doors within an hour’s drive from the CBD, it comes as no surprise that it has been named one of the Great Wine Capitals of the World.
To the north of the Adelaide CBD is the Adelaide Plains where the vineyards are centred around two northern suburbs, Virginia and Angle Vale. Predominantly a grape growing area, varieties include Shiraz, Colombard, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon and Semillon. Italian red varieties are also grown and include Barbera, Sangiovese and Nebbiolo.
